Weyerhaeuser - Technical Assistant - Pulp, Power & Recovery - LA


In this position, you will perform environmental monitoring, report on and update the environmental database, ensure chemical inventory management, train operators for process changes and new equipment, plan and execute process changes in pulp mill and refiner performance, and implement new control strategies, including air distribution systems, slaker controls, digester liquor charging, etc. You will also perform inspection and repair of equipment, assist with maintenance planning, review all aspects of boiler and mill water systems, and provide support on shutdowns with lockout inspections, SOPs, production work schedule, etc.


Goals include reducing digester variability, increasing pulp mill throughput, optimization of kiln fuel consumption, and the elimination of uneconomical or unsafe operating practices.


Requires a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper with Chemistry minor; 3-5 years of paper industry experience; strong judgment and decision-making skills; PC proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access); demonstrated leadership skills; ability to work independently as well as part of a team; excellent organizational and multitasking skills; and a commitment to continuous learning. Also requires strong interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to coach, educate, and motivate others; understanding and commitment to the concepts of high performance work systems, change management, and performance management. MS Project and SAP experience preferred.
